Accessorizing: Scarves to Accent your Outfit

It’s official, we still have 6 more weeks of winter to muddle through. Is your winter wardrobe starting to feel dull? Don’t want to spend money trying to revamp it? Don’t worry; we have the perfect solution- accent with a scarf! Adding this accessory will give your outfits an instant dose of color and update them up for the remainder of the season. Plus, they’re budget friendly!

Scarf to update Basics

A printed scarf, like this modern polka dot, will instantly wake up your basics. We chose a light weight style, grounded in coral with shades of grey and tan in the design. This makes it easy to pair with jackets and cardigans in this same color family. Keep the pops of color going with a fun textured flat or clutch.

Soft Terracotta Scarves

Don’t let pattern or texture prevent you from layering on a scarf, especially if you’re not keen on very vibrant colors. You can keep the palette more tonal like we did here. These blush tones scarves add a soft touch to an otherwise very subdued color palette. Any of these taupe sweaters and soft terracotta scarves can be mixed and matched together without making your ensemble a snooze fest.

Blue Scarf w/ White Blouse

You can also wear a scarf with collared shirts. For this you want to opt for a bold color like this cobalt blue print number. Here your basic white blouse and grey trousers are transformed to an ensemble infinitely more interesting with a colored, printed, silk scarf. We kept the other accessories understated yet fun. A cuff bracelet pulls in the blue further while rope detail earrings are intriguing in their own right. Get those heels replaced on your favorite ankle boots and take on the rest of the winter season in style!

Love the idea of accenting with scarves, but struggling with the styling. Check out this video featuring Natalie from Elan Image Management. She’ll show you three quick and easy ways to style our suggestions in this video A Guide to Tying Scarves.

Have fun!

    • Nicole the cotton scarf might be a good on to try. They are light and airey and can just be draped over the body not necessarily wrapped around the chest….

  1. I am a scarf nut! I worked in the corporate world for many years… a scarf can totally change a suit or dress! Now that I am a WAHM … a scarf makes my jean outfits! Love them! I find them all over…this winter I bought a really cute scarf at Walgreen’s for $5.00….looks great with my jeans and my dark plum sweater! The scarf turned an old pair of jeans and an old sweater into a brand new outfit!
